President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally accepted the resignation of Mr. Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, who until now served as the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology. The resignation follows recent allegations leveled against the minister, prompting his decision to step down from his position in the Federal Executive Council.

Mr. Nnaji, who was appointed to the federal cabinet in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to President Tinubu. In the letter, the former minister expressed deep gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him and for the opportunity to serve the nation at such a high level of governance.

He also stated that his decision to resign was made in good faith, emphasizing that he had become a target of blackmail and malicious campaigns orchestrated by political adversaries. According to him, the move was necessary to prevent unnecessary distractions that could hinder the progress of the ministry and the administration’s broader developmental agenda.

President Tinubu, while acknowledging the receipt of the resignation letter, commended Mr. Nnaji for his service and contributions to national development, particularly in advancing technological innovation and scientific research during his tenure. The President also wished him success in his future endeavours, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The announcement was made public by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Monday, October 7, 2025.
