Tensions have escalated within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a faction reportedly loyal to Senator Samuel Anyanwu moved to assume control of the party’s national headquarters at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

According to reports, there was a heavy security presence around the secretariat as members of the faction arrived. Former PDP North Central Vice Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who is aligned with the new faction, announced himself as the acting National Chairman of the party and formally resumed at the headquarters.

In contrast, the embattled National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagun, alongside the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and other members of their group, were noticeably absent from the premises during the takeover.

The development marks a new phase in the internal leadership tussle rocking the PDP, as both factions continue to claim legitimate control of the party’s leadership structure. The presence of security operatives is seen as an effort to prevent any breakdown of law and order as the power struggle unfolds.

Stakeholders and party loyalists are watching closely, awaiting further official pronouncements or interventions to resolve the deepening crisis within the opposition party.
