A devastating attack has thrown the quiet community of Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State into mourning after armed terrorists stormed a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch on Tuesday evening, killing three people and abducting multiple worshippers, including the presiding pastor.
According to eyewitness accounts, the armed group invaded the church while a meeting was underway. Without warning, they opened fire on the congregation, causing chaos as worshippers fled in all directions in a desperate attempt to escape the hail of bullets.
Three individuals were confirmed dead at the scene. Panic intensified as the attackers rounded up several worshippers at gunpoint and forcefully led them into the surrounding bush. The exact number of kidnapped persons has not yet been determined.
A resident who witnessed part of the incident recounted the horror:
“The attackers appeared from nowhere and started shooting immediately. Three people died instantly. They then gathered others and marched them away into the forest. Nobody knows how many were taken.”
The gunmen reportedly fled through dense forest routes linking Eruku to nearby villages, leaving the traumatised community in shock and fear.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kwara State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official statement regarding the attack, heightening anxiety among residents who now fear further assaults.
