Number “147” on both sides of the entrance. According to the Red book of West Africa (1920; p. 75-76) the offices of the British American Tobacco Co. were in Broad Street (number not indicated; but by 1954, 147 Broad Street was the home of Araba Transport Ltd.

The Company was established in September 1902.In 1911 Mr. N.J Sweeney, the manager of the West African territory started the Nigerian business by opening a branch in Lagos, and other branches in Lokoja and Calabar.

BAT had been trading in Nigeria since 1911 until the operations became the Nigerian Tobacco Company (NTC). In 1966, the firm employed 2,700 Nigerians and dominated the cigarette market with a market 90% share.
