Supreme Court: PDP Chieftain Okai Reacts to Kogi Governor Ododo’s Victory, “Expect Criticism.

PDP chieftain Okai has sent a crucial message to Kogi Governor Usman Ododo following his victory at the Supreme Court Okai urged Governor Ododo to prioritise workers’ welfare and distanced himself from the previous administration’s divisive tactics.

Comrade Usman Okai Austin, the immediate past candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Dekina/Bassa federal constituency, has reacted to Governor Usman Ododo’s victory at the Supreme Court.

Recall that on Friday, August 23, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, affirmed Ododo as the duly-elected governor of Kogi state.

In its judgment, a five-member panel quashed the appeal filed by the Social Democratic Party ( SDP ) and its candidates in the November 2023 poll, Murtala Ajaka.

As Governor Ododo begins his tenure, Okai advises him to prioritize the welfare of Kogi State’s citizens by ensuring timely payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, as well as providing essential facilities and services to the people.

“EXPECT CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS,” OKAI TELL ODODO.

While acknowledging the Supreme Court’s judgment, Okai noted that it does not accurately reflect the election’s outcome.

Buttressing his point, he emphasizes that the focus should now shift to the next four years, during which Governor Ododo must work towards rebuilding and developing the state.

Okai thereby calls on Governor Ododo to put aside political differences and work towards a united Kogi state, where every citizen can thrive and enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He, however, reminded the governor to expect constructive criticism from the opposition, noting that they would speak out when necessary to ensure accountability and good governance.

“We urge Governor Ododo to unite the state, prioritize workers’ welfare, and provide essential services to the people. We will offer constructive criticism when necessary to ensure a better future for Kogi state,” Okai said.

Okai also condemned the attack on the Kogi state SDP governorship candidate in the November election, Murtala Ajaka, at the Supreme Court premises today.

“The attack on Muritala Ajaka, the SDP candidate, is a condemnable act of thuggery that must be addressed immediately,” he said.

“KOGI’s 20 TRUCK OF RICE STAIRS CONTROVERSY.

Speaking with the press on Friday, Okai demanded that the Kogi government account for the rice and ensure a fair distribution exercise to the people of the state.

Former member of the House of Representatives, Farah Dagogo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Dagogo secured victory in the party’s direct primary polling 64,700 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Sokonte Davies, who garnered 9,050 votes.

The result was announced by the Chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, Agu Bryan, alongside other committee members and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

FEDERAL HIGH COURT STOPS INEC FROM RESTRICTING DEFECTION TO ANOTHER PARTY AFTER CONTESTING PRIMARY

Here is the judgement from the Federal High Court, Abuja today

1. INEC can only monitor 2027 primaries but cannot fix timetable for when a political party should conduct its primaries for this election

2. INEC cannot give a shorter timeframe or abridge the period in which a political party can provide information of their candidates for 2027 election

3. INEC cannot give a shorter timeframe to political parties as regards withdrawal or replacement of candidates (Placeholders)

4. INEC cannot publish any final list of candidates for 2027 elections before 60 days to election.

5. INEC cannot fix 2027 campaigns to end 2 days to elections.

6. This is AN ORDER nullifying and setting aside the timeframes imposed by INEC for 2027 General Election for:

– the conduct of primary elections by political parties for the 2027 general elections

– the submission of personal particulars of candidates by their political parties for the 2027 general elections

– the withdrawal and replacement of candidates by political parties

– the publication of the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections and campaigning.

Is this a trap or a game changer for some aspirants???
