The action of the Federal Government in deploying soldiers in Kano in the tussle over the throne of the ancient city is an upset to the peace and security of the state, and also in breach of the 1999 Constitution as Amended.

In performing their constitutional duties of law making, the Kano State House of Assembly (KSHA) passed the amended Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 in consonance with the provision of Section 4 of the Constitution 1999 as Amended whereas the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf subsequently signed into law the said bill. The law, therefore, repealed the 2019 version, which balkanized the ancient Kano Emirate into five.

The foregoing circumstances happened within the confines of the law and in compliance with the powers conferred on the Governor as provided by Section 5(2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended; and also in consultation with the Kingmakers of Kano, reappointed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (also known as Muhammadu Sanusi II) as the 16th Emir of Kano State and accordingly handed him a letter of appointment.

It is surprising that in the early hours of today, at or about 5:30 am the former Emir of Kano, His Majesty Aminu Ado Bayero backed by Federal might made their way into the Nasarawa Palace of the Kano Emirate while the reappointed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II was at the Gidan Dabo, which is the main residence of the Emir of Kano.

We need to remind the Tinubu administration that Kano State is known for peace and harmony spanning thousands of years, and any attempt to destablise the peace of the Land of Commerce shall be resisted. Recall that when Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned on 9th March 2020, Kano forged on in peace without any fracas. -AA

Wike has emperor mentality – Senator Kingibe

Published

Senator Ireti Kingibe has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of operating with an “emperor mentality”.

The FCT senator also claimed that Wike had failed to address key issues affecting residents of Abuja.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Kingibe said she had initially decided to tone down her public criticism of the minister in hopes that it would encourage development and cooperation for the benefit of her constituents.

“In the last few months, I gave it some thought and said, ‘Okay, at the end of the day, all I want is for my people to benefit’.

“If being less antagonistic to the minister would help bring development, then fine. So I decided to minimize my public criticism of him. It’s not made any difference, because he has an emperor mentality,” she said.

However, the senator said her decision yielded no results, alleging that Wike viewed her restraint as a sign of submission.

“He just thought, ‘Oh, I’ve got her – end of matter,’ and things are even worse,” she said, adding: “At least in the first year I was senator, he paid the salaries of the FCDA staff. Now they’re not even being paid.”

Ekwutosblog reports that Kingibe’s latest remarks add to ongoing tensions between her and the FCT minister over governance and development issues in the capital.

Paul Ibe, the media aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has disclosed those who will decide the fate of those seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition.

Ibe disclosed that delegates will decide the fate of Atiku, Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, who are expected to battle for the presidential ticket of the ADC.

Speaking on Trust TV, Ibe said the leaders already reached a compromise on the need to make sacrifices before the coalition was launched.

After the unveiling of ADC as the coalition’s platform, Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi hinted on running for the presidency on the party’s platform.

However, Ibe said the contest will be democratic.

He said: “It is the delegates of the party, whether it is a direct or indirect primary, they are the ones who are going to determine the fate of these leaders.

“All of these two fighting or three fighting will be settled by the delegates.

“Maybe it’s because of the fact that we lost the essence of what democracy is all about because of what Tinubu and his administration has been doing.

“Everybody is being railroaded into a one-party state. It’s about choice, people have the right to choose.”
