The death of Sommie Maduagwu is a blow to our country which continues to lose its brightest people to insecurity and violence-Peter Obi
The presidential candidate for Labour Party in 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi paid a condolence visit to Arise on the passing of Arise News Anchor Sommie. Obi expressed deepest condolences on his official twitter account. Obi described the manner which Sommie died as “senseless” and “heartbreaking”
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a brilliant young anchor with Arise News, who was killed in the most painful circumstances during a robbery attack in Abuja”
He maintained that many gifted bright and talented young Nigerians have lost their lives in this country because of violence and insecurity and this is a menace that should be curb
“At only 29, Somtochukwu had already distinguished herself as a gifted broadcaster and trained lawyer whose voice engaged, informed, and inspired many. Her loss is not only a personal tragedy to her family and colleagues but also a huge blow to journalism and to our nation, which continues to lose its brightest to insecurity and violence”
He maintained that what happened to Sommie is an urgent call for the government to prioritize the safety and security of every citizen, stating that no Nigerian should go to bed fearful of what night might bring.
“This heartbreaking incident once again highlights the urgent need for us as a country to prioritise the safety and security of every citizen. No Nigerian should go to bed fearful of what the night may bring, or lose their life in such senseless ways”
He stated that his thoughts and prayers are with her grieving family, the Arise News family, and all who mourn her and that her soul rest in peace, and that we, as a nation, work harder to build a country where lives are valued and protected.
