‎In a candid moment during an interview with Arise News, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power and a leading member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), criticized the wave of political defections sweeping Nigeria’s political landscape. He opined that people who are defecting to APC are people who are scared and running into federal shelter.

‎“All we’re seeing now are people who are a little scared and are running helter-skelter“We don’t think that should be the case.”

‎When asked to elucidate, the senator directly used himself as an example to explain why national interest should supercede self preservation in any case of defection. He stated that;

‎”If I Go to Abians and Tell Them I Want to Defect to APC; they will ask me what the Igbos have gained in this government to make them move to APC”

‎He mentioned that he also asked one of his friends who told him that he’s waiting for him to defect and his response was that the Igbos have gained from the just inaugurated Southeast development commission. He argued that this is not an achievement because another region had their own development commission long before the igbos.
