Transfer: Chelsea not getting Osimhen, I hope Delap performs – Obi Mikel

Published

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has admitted that his old club is not getting Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer transfer window.

Obi Mikel also hoped that Chelsea’s new signing Liam Delap performs and give first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson competition at the club.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Super Eagles captain said: “Everyone knows the number nine [Victor Osimhen] that I want us to get, but we’re not getting him.

“We need to get Osimhen, but I don’t think the club is going that route.

“We’ve gotten [Liam] Delap and I hope he performs and gives Nicolas Jackson some competition.

“Then we’ll see how it leads us from the FIFA Club World Cup into the Premier League and the Champions League.”

Osimhen has been a long time transfer target for Chelsea.

The Premier League west London club failed to bring the Nigerian to Old Trafford last year.

Transfer: It doesn’t matter – Ighalo speaks on Osimhen moving to Saudi Arabia

Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has said it does not matter whether his compatriot Victor Osimhen moves to Saudi Arabia now or in the future.

Ighalo, speaking with News Central, claimed that the option of moving to the Middle East would always be available to Osimhen.

“He knows what he wants. We were together two days ago, but we didn’t talk about football; we just had fun,” he said.

“I believe he knows what he wants; he’s grown, he’s worked hard, and if he calls me for a word, I’ll speak from my opinion, but any decision he makes, it’s a win-win for him.

“If he goes to Saudi now, if he doesn’t go until two years later, it doesn’t matter, because last year they came, he didn’t go; they came this year, he’s declined; they’ll still come again.”

Ighalo himself played in the Saudi Pro League for Al-Shabab, Al-Hilal, and Al-Wehda.
