Prior to its government initiation, Musa Mohammed, the National President of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, affirmed his dedication to the CNG initiative.
He disclosed the acquisition of 2,500 dual-fuel vehicles capable of operating on both gasoline and gas. “I’ve introduced my own fleet of CNG vehicles,” he declared. “I am the pioneer with 2,500 CNG vehicles, which are dual-fueled for either gas or traditional fuel usage.”
Similarly, Segun Falade, spokesperson for the National Union of Road Transport Workers, informed Saturday PUNCH of the union’s active involvement in the CNG strategy.
He disclosed that while the government initially proposed 2,700 buses and tricycles nationwide, the union advocated for a minimum of 10,000 buses.
The government, however, agreed to commence with 3,000 buses and tricycles, scheduled for commissioning on May 29. Additionally, Falade mentioned ongoing discussions on funding and the potential for a public-private partnership to further expand the fleet.
