“Two rats”: Cristiano Ronaldo savagely slams English pundits for Euro 2024 criticism

  • Cristiano Ronaldo has criticised English pundits Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker for their criticism during Euro 2024
  • Ronaldo was called out for crying after missing a penalty against Slovenia in extra time in the Round of 16
  • The Al-Nassr star has called the two pundits “rats”, claiming they don’t know anything about him

Cristiano Ronaldo has blasted two English pundits who criticised his reaction to missing a penalty in Euro 2024 in Germany.

The veteran striker cried after Jan Oblak saved his extra time penalty in Portugal’s Round of 16 clashes against Slovenia.

The Al-Nassr star was mocked on social media for his reaction, with England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer joining in.

Ronaldo headed to Euro 2024 looking to win his second continental crown, but their journey ended in the quarter-final stage.

The 39-year-old cried in extra time and was consoled by teammates. He scored his penalty in the shootout, which Portugal won 3-0 to reach the quarter-final, where they lost to France.

Ronaldo explained why he shed tears

“Even the strongest people have their [bad] days,” Ronaldo said. “I was at rock bottom when the team needed me most. I was sad at first but now I’m happy. That’s what football is. Moments, inexplicable moments,” via The Guardian.

Ronaldo registered one assist in five games at Euro 2024. The former Juventus star is aiming to play for a few more years, but it is unclear if he will be around for the 2026 World Cup.

Ronaldo blasts Shearer, Lineker

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo directed a brutal response to the two former England internationals.

“They don’t know nothing. It’s much easier to criticise than to appreciate what you really have. We know how the press works, if you speak [positively] nothing sells, you have to speak [negatively],” via Football365.

The former Manchester United star said he is used to criticism because he is the most followed star.

“What am I going to do? Am I going to cry and then finish my career because two rats criticised me? The world loves me! The fans love me! This is my motivation. Nobody is going to take my shine away because two guys from television that nobody knows have criticised me.”

Ronaldo has started the 2024/25 season well and is aiming to defend his Saudi Pro League Golden Boot.

Ronaldo tips Lamine Yamal as new GOAT

Earlier, Ekwutosblog reported that Cristiano Ronaldo shared his views on a player who could potentially surpass both him and Lionel Messi.

In a conversation on his YouTube channel with former teammate Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo highlighted Lamine Yamal as a rising talent to keep an eye on in the future.

2026 World Cup: Super Eagles waiting for FIFA’s decision – Iwobi

Published

on

Super Eagles playmaker, Alex Iwobi, has admitted they are waiting to see if the team would still play at the 2026 World Cup.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is optimistic of a potential lifeline from FIFA, after it submitted a petition against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Iwobi was asked by SuperSport if he would rather lift the AFCON 2025 trophy or qualify for the World Cup?

The 29-year-old, who played at the 2018 of the World Cup, replied: “I mean we’re still waiting, well hopefully we can go to the World Cup, but I feel it’s a tough one.

“It’s a tough one because winning AFCON is like… It’s a great legacy, it’s a great thing to have like in your career, a memorable moment.

“But then at the same time, because I’ve been to the World Cup already, a lot of the players haven’t been. They would like to say ‘I want to go to the World Cup,’ so I can’t be selfish and say win the AFCON and for my teammates to not go to the World Cup. So it’s a tough one. I don’t know. I don’t know.”
