The United States Embassy in Nigeria has received a formal petition seeking a visa ban against the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and members of his immediate family.

The petition, reportedly submitted by a coalition of civil society organizations and concerned citizens, accuses Governor Okpebholo of issuing threats and using his political position to intimidate perceived opponents, particularly in the lead-up to the state’s governorship election.

According to the petitioners, the governor’s alleged actions undermine democratic principles and pose a threat to peace and security in Edo State. They urged the U.S. government to take swift action by placing a travel restriction on the governor and his relatives as a deterrent against political intimidation.
