VATICAN PUBLISHES PROGRAMS FOR NINE DAYS MOURNING OF POPE FRANCIS

Published

on

Following an ancient tradition, the Catholic Church will observe nine consecutive days of mourning, marked by Masses held in suffrage for the late Pope Francis.

While these Eucharistic celebrations are open to everyone, each day a different group is scheduled to participate—based on their connection with the Holy Father.

This diversity of groups reflects both “the scope of the Supreme Pastor’s ministry and the universality of the Church of Rome” (cf. Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis, nos. 124–125).

The Cardinals present in Rome set the schedule for which of them will celebrate each Mass during their second General Congregation, held on Wednesday evening.

Nine days in suffrage
The first day of the Novemdiales will be marked by Pope Francis’ funeral Mass in St. Peter’s Square at 10:00 AM.

In the following days, celebrants for the Novemdiales Masses will be as follows (all times are local time in Rome – GMT +2):

– Second Day: Sunday, April 27, at 10:30 AM in St. Peter’s Square. The Mass will be presided by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the group will be the employees and faithful of Vatican City.

– Third Day: Monday, April 28, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. Mass will be presided by Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar General of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome, and the group will be the Church of Rome.

– Fourth Day: Tuesday, April 29, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. The Chapters of the Papal Basilicas will be the group at the Mass presided by Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican.

– Fifth Day: Wednesday, April 30, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Vice-Dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside Mass, with the group being the Papal Chapel.

– Sixth Day: Thursday, May 1, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will preside the Mass, with the group being the Roman Curia.

– Seventh Day: Friday, May 2, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. The Mass will be presided by Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect Emeritus of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, with the group being the Eastern Churches.

– Eighth Day: Saturday, May 3, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Pro-Prefect Emeritus of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, will preside the Mass, with members of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

– Ninth Day: Sunday, May 4, at 5:00 PM in St. Peter’s Basilica. Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Protodeacon of the College of Cardinals, will preside the Mass with the Papal Chapel group.

In an extraordinary medical and spiritual event, 67-year-old Mrs. Martina Okoro, a native of Ututu in Arochukwu Local Government Area, gave birth to a healthy baby girl on Sunday, June 22, 2025. The delivery comes after an astonishing 11-year pregnancy, a journey Mrs. Okoro attributes to divine intervention, Ekwutosblog has learned.

Mrs. Okoro revealed that she had been carrying the pregnancy since 2014 and claimed that God revealed to her that she would deliver a baby girl. Against all odds, her faith remained unshaken throughout the prolonged gestation period.

Medical experts are yet to provide an explanation for this rare occurrence, as pregnancies typically last only nine months. However, the mother and newborn are reported to be in good health.

The news has sparked widespread amazement, with many celebrating it as a miracle while others await further scientific clarification.

Man faults NBA on assault of member

A 55-year-old Nigerian businessman, Williams Raymond, has denied assaulting a lawyer, Ajiki John Boluwaji.

He also dismissed the claim of illegally detaining one of the workers, Lekan Adewole, over the disappearance of his 17-year-old son, Adam, about two weeks ago.

The development comes as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gwagwalada Branch, accused Raymond of sponsoring assailants to beat up the lawyer when he went to serve him a demand letter over the alleged unlawful detention of his client, Adewole.

But Raymond, in a statement to journalists on Wednesday, queried the report, claiming that it was Boluwaji who came to his office at Apo Market Junction, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and hauled insults at him when he insisted that his lawyer must go through the demand letter before honouring it or appending his signature.

According to the embattled father, the lawyer, who was shabbily dressed, assaulted a shop owner, Itoro Dominic Robert, who came to intervene when the verbal exchange took a dangerous twist.

Also, he clarified that the lawyer’s phone was not seized, nor was he prevented from calling for help.

“He was not looking like a lawyer. In fact, he wore slippers.

“I said all these things are false.’ I will not sign. I will wait for my lawyer to advise me accordingly.’ He became unruly. He spoke to me as if I were his child. He also called me unprintable names. I do not know his motives.

“The person who assaulted the lawyer has been detained. He was a passerby,” he said.

Nigerian Police To Discipline Officers Caught Jogging Behind Actress Angela Okorie In Viral Video

In the viral video, two armed policemen were seen trailing the actress closely as she jogged casually, sparking outrage and questions over the misuse of state security personnel.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced disciplinary action against some of its armed officers who were caught on video bizarrely jogging behind Nollywood actress Angela Okorie during her workout — an act the Force described as “unprofessional and embarrassing.”

In the viral video, two armed policemen were seen trailing the actress closely as she jogged casually, sparking outrage and questions over the misuse of state security personnel.

Reacting to the video in a statement on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the conduct of the officers “clearly falls below the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,” adding that their actions have triggered “widespread public criticism.”

The statement, titled ‘Viral Video Of Actress Angela Okorie With Armed Policemen’, read in part: “The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged — an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force.

“The incident, which appears to have occurred on or around a movie set, has also sparked widespread public concern and criticism.

“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

“Accordingly, necessary administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the video, while appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the review.”

Adejobi noted that the Force remains committed to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and public trust.

This is coming a month after the Inspector General of Police issued a stern directive warning all personnel against uploading photographs of themselves in uniform to social media platforms.

The directive also prohibited sharing any official police documents online and warned against carrying luggage or umbrellas for Very Important Persons (VIPs).

According to an internal wireless message dated May 3, 2025, and exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, the instruction was relayed to all personnel of the Police Mobile Force, No. 13PMF Squadron in Makurdi, Benue State.

The memo, signed by ACP Hassan S. Aliyu, the Commanding Officer, read: “The Inspector General of Police has reiterated his warning on NPF Social Media Policy, and further directs that, on no account, should any police personnel use his or her uniform picture on any social media.

“He further warns that any official documents are also prohibited to be (sic) published on social media, while those attached to V.I.P’s are warned not to carry any V.I.P’s luggage (bags) or umbrellas, any disobedience to these directives will be viewed with severe sanction.”
