The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has announced that the command recorded significant successes in crime prevention and control across the state in September 2025.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, September 29, at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Bakori said the operation code-named Kukan Kura has been central in reducing crime and keeping Kano safer.

“In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Kano State Police Command has intensified its strategic initiatives, particularly through Operation Kukan Kura,” Bakori said.

“This Operation has been instrumental in curbing all forms of criminal activities and fostering a safer environment for all in the State.”

The commissioner explained that the operation, which combines community participation, intelligence gathering and technology, has helped dismantle criminal networks and stop threats before they escalate.

According to him, within just one month, the police arrested 105 suspects linked to major crimes such as armed robbery, drug trafficking, theft of vehicles and motorcycles, and thuggery.

The arrests include: 17 armed robbery suspects, 8 suspected drug dealers, 9 suspected motor vehicle thieves and 5 suspected motorcycle thieves.

Others are 9 other suspected thieves and 57 suspected thugs (Yan Daba).

Bakori also revealed the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit substances worth millions of Naira.

“Notably, we recently recovered Tramadol and Pregabalin tablets worth N82,725,000.00 in Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano, which will be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution,” he said.

Among the items recovered were 3 AK-47 rifles, 3 English pistols, 3 revolver pistols, 1 locally made AK-47, 1 Dane gun, 2 and locally made pistols.

Others are 7 motor vehicles, 2 tricycles, 13 motorcycles, and 3 cows and 603 packets of Tramadol (60,300 tablets valued at N60.3 million).

The remaining items are 6 cartons of Pregabalin (44,850 capsules valued at N22.4 million) and 523 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

Then 38 swords, 42 cutlasses, 57 knives, and other sharp objects and POS machines and other stolen property.

Bakori thanked Kano residents for their cooperation, which he said has been crucial to the command’s achievements.

“I wish to express my gratitude to the good people of Kano State for their support and cooperation, which has been instrumental in our successes. I look forward to continued collaboration in our quest to build a safer and more secured Kano State for all,” he stated.

The commissioner assured that the police remains committed to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue providing credible information to aid security operations.
