The Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Abass, says the success of the 2025 Yuletide in Imo State is due to the vigilance of the brigade’s troops.

Abass stated this on Saturday in Owerri at the 2025 edition of the West African Social Activities, WASA, organised by the brigade.

The commander said WASA was necessary to allow soldiers to unwind while remaining vigilant and protective of Nigerians.

According to him, WASA was adopted as part of the Nigerian Army’s regimentation to reinforce civil-military cooperation and showcase Nigeria’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

He appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for his commitment to peace in Nigeria and for supporting the brigade’s activities.

“WASA affords members of the Nigerian Army and their families the opportunity to interact with their civil counterparts.

“In line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, the brigade has been instrumental in supporting several assigned missions to tackle contemporary security challenges facing the nation,” he added.

He also thanked the families of soldiers and their friends for their support, which contributed to the brigade’s success, and urged them to continue their backing.

The event featured dance performances by cultural troupes from various ethnic groups in the country, as well as tasting of various indigenous dishes by the commander.

Additionally, there were tug-of-war displays, a bonfire, and presentations of awards to deserving personnel for their outstanding achievements in 2025.

The event was attended by all heads of security agencies in the state, traditional rulers, wives of soldiers, and other dignitaries.
