Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State following the party’s primary election held on Saturday.

Announcing the outcome of the exercise, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Lawan Garba, declared Yusuf Buhari winner after polling 17,342 votes to defeat fellow aspirant, Auwalu Musa Daura, who scored 480 votes.

With the victory, Yusuf Buhari officially becomes the APC flag bearer for the federal constituency ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking shortly after the declaration, Yusuf Buhari expressed gratitude to party members, delegates, and supporters across the constituency for the overwhelming confidence reposed in him during the primary process.

He assured party faithful that he would work towards uniting all members of the APC and carrying everyone along irrespective of political differences that may have emerged during the contest.

According to him, the support shown by the people of Daura, Sandamu, and Mai’adua would inspire him to remain committed to the progress and success of the party as preparations intensify for the general elections.

Yusuf Buhari also called on his opponent and supporters of other aspirants to close ranks and work collectively for the victory of the APC in the state and across the country.

However, the conduct and outcome of the primary election have continued to generate mixed reactions within political circles, as Auwalu Lawan Daura, son of former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, rejected the result of the exercise.

Daura alleged that the direct primary election was marred by irregularities and failed to comply with the laid down procedures and guidelines of the party.

He maintained that several individuals who participated in the voting process allegedly lacked valid APC membership cards, while also questioning the method adopted during vote counting.

According to him, the process did not reflect fairness, transparency, or internal democracy, principles he said motivated his participation in the contest.

Despite the controversy trailing the exercise, APC officials in the state insist that the primary election was successfully conducted and that the declared results remain valid.

Political observers say the emergence of Yusuf Buhari is expected to attract significant attention ahead of the general elections due to his family background and growing political visibility within the APC.
