Governor Hope Uzodimma has commenced the construction of an underground flood control tunnel at Akwakuma junction in owerri as a precursor to the reconstruction of the Orji hardel Junction to Mbieri to Akwakuma junction.

The construction which is currently been handled by the construction giant craneburg was necessary due to the volume of flood that finds its way from the mbieri road to Akwakuma Junction thereby threatening the integrity of the Orlu-Owerri road at Akwakuma Junction axis up to Akwakuma girls secondary school.

The Orji-Mbieri road which runs from Hardel Junction Orji through Mbieri and terminates at Akwakuma Junction will be reconstructed with a preliminary underground flood control tunnel at Akwakuma junction, that will collect the waters from the road at and transmit same to the nworie river opposite Rochas market.

Without this preliminary construction of an underground flood control tunnel, any work done at the mbieri road will not stand the taste of time as has been the case with previous attempts to fix the road by previous administrations without an underground flood control tunnel where all the waters from Hardel Junction to Mbieri road would be collected and emptied inside Nworie River.

As such, the construction of the underground tunnel by the Shared Prosperity Government of Imo State under the leadership of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma is the right engineering step to take as a precursor to any reconstruction that will be done on the Orji Mbieri Road.

Residents and Commuters have hailed the ongoing construction of the underground tunnel at Akwakuma Junction describing it as a welcomed development and the right step to take in ensuring that the flood that flows from Mbieri road does not affect the integrity of the Akwakuma axis of the Owerri-Orlu road, also ensure that any reconstruction work done at the mbieri road will stand the taste of time.
