NATIONAL FILM AND VIDEO CENSORS BOARD TO REVIEW THEIR ACTIVITIES, CLASSIFY MOVIES.

Published

on

The national film and video censors board says it is Moving from the regime of censorship to the regime of classification of movies.

This means the board will classify skits, short films, feature length film as well as anything audiovisual as this will help the board in addressing certain issues affecting the industry.

The nation’s content space is said to have grown astronomically since 2020 when covid hit and the cinemas were closed totally.

Post COVID-19, the sector has made many young people millionaires as the cameras turn on when an idea for a skit hits.

But many have said the content space needs to be properly regulated going by the type of contents released.

The nation film and video censors board is aware of this and have said everyone creating visual content will have to come to the board for classification.

The director general and chief executive officer of the board, Shaibu Husseini, also noted the board will become digitised so film makers can go online to register their works rather than the old way.

The board noted that it will soon kickstart its process of approving vetted film and other related contents between 6 and 48 hour and this will be done from the comfort of their homes.

Singer Brown Joel has addressed misconceptions surrounding him and his collaborators on the hit track Ogechi, saying they are not a group and should not be called “Ogechi boys.”

In a recent video, Brown Joel said:

> “We’re not a group. We’re friends and individual artists. There’s no contract binding us as a crew.”

He also made a subtle jab at streaming numbers, saying:

> “When you get to a concert, real humans will sing for you. Not digital numbers.”

Brown Joel described himself and his collaborators as independent acts, not tied to any formal collective.

A review of Linda Ikeji’s movie, Reverse.

Published

on

A good story is the foundation of every great movie, and this applies in Reverse.

The movie aptly employs flashbacks to keep you guessing, revealing important details at just the right moment.

Watching this movie felt like being in a game of whack-a-mole. It depicts one of those bad days where you’re hopping about, quenching fires, and as soon as you succeed in suppressing one, another erupts.

It also manages to evoke deep emotions and leaves you with questions and “if onlys” – If only Edna had resolved the issue amicably earlier, if only the CFO had been less rigid…

The actors were perfectly cast; the family members all look alike, making their story believable.

The actors also interpreted their roles well. I’d forgotten how good an actress Hilda Dokubo is.

The story is relevant and subtly addresses a number of topical issues in Nigeria. We see the welder who brazenly abuses his apprentice and nobody bats an eye, the incompetence of artisans, the unscrupulous bystander who plays a fast one on a family during a crisis, the hospital’s payment before treatment policy…

What I enjoyed the most about Reverse is the unpredictability. Don’t try to guess, just allow for the many moments of surprises.

I also love that the movie manages to be didactic without being preachy.

Having seen this movie, I have two messages to pass along:

Go and see Reverse between now and Thursday, May 22 (swipe for cinemas and show times).

Don’t leave just yet when the end credits start rolling in.

Tension gripped Ikire, a town in Irewole local government area of Osun State, on Sunday following an attack on the convoy of popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma.

The attack, which occurred in the afternoon, involved suspected hoodlums who reportedly stoned and shot at the vehicles in the convoy, including a black Hummer Jeep and a white Hilux truck.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the vehicles sustained visible damage.

However, it remains unclear whether any member of Pasuma’s team was injured during the incident.

A video that has since gone viral on social media shows a chaotic scene, with people screaming in the background and one voice lamenting in Pidgin English, “Kasala don burst for Ikire. They don attack us. They carry gun shoot us but God dey.”

Efforts by journalists to reach the Fuji musician or his management team for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Local residents expressed shock over the incident, which disrupted activities in the area and caused temporary panic among passers-by and business owners.

Pasuma was reportedly in the state for a performance, though the exact details of his visit have not been confirmed.
