Suspected drug addict allegedly sets family house on fire after dispute in Lagos

A young man suspected to be under the influence of drugs allegedly set his family house on fire following a heated argument with relatives in Lagos.

In a video circulating on social media in the early hours of Wednesday, family members were seen struggling to escape from the burning building as flames spread through parts of the house.

Some occupants could be heard shouting and calling for help while attempting to make their way out of the building.

The person who recorded the video claimed that the suspect, believed to be between 21 and 25 years old, had earlier engaged in a fight with members of his family before the incident.

According to the narrator in the footage, the young man, who was described as a suspected drug addict, was seen wearing several chains around his neck before allegedly setting the house on fire.

The narrator also alleged that the suspect vandalised property within the compound, including smashing the windscreen of a Lexus Prado car parked inside the compound. Several household items were reportedly destroyed during the disturbance.

The suspect’s mother was seen outside the building in a state of panic while other family members gathered around the compound as the situation unfolded.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were reportedly called to the scene and were seen making efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact location of the incident in Lagos could not be independently confirmed.

It was also unclear whether there were injuries or arrests connected to the incident, as authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Man, 25, arrested after criminal he paid N500k to acid-bathe his ex-girlfriend poured the substance on her salesgirl

The police in Lagos state have arrested a 25-year-old data scientist who allegedly attempted to harm his ex-lover with acid but mistakenly poured the corrosive substance on an innocent person instead.

According to reports, the suspect who resides in Lakwe in Ibeju-Lekki area of the state, became disgruntled after his then girlfriend ended their relationship in October 2025. In a bid to get at her, he contracted a man who is currently at large, paid the man N500, 000 to att@ck his ex-girlfriend. However, the attacker who was unfamiliar with the said ex-girlfriend, went to her shop and mistakenly poured acid all over her salesgirl who he presumed was his target.

The victim, who has already lost her sight in the cause of the incident, is still battling for her life at an undisclose hospital in lagos with over N40 million already spent on her treatment.

The suspect, who allegedly sent threatening messages to his ex-lover before the incident, continued sending them even after an innocent person was attacked.

His number was tracked, and he was apprehended.

When interrogated, the suspect, a master’s degree holder, said he met his ex-girlfriend online in January 2025. He mentioned that things took a different turn after he dicovered she was no longer interested in him and might have started seeing someone else.

He confessed to contacting a man to help him deal with his ex for dumping him.

“I felt emotionally hurt, so I hired a man and paid N500,000. I only asked him to help me ‘deal with her’ not to pour her acid. He went to her shop and attacked an innocent person, who is her employee, ” he said

Edo shooting: Nothing will happen if you die – Afenifere Director warns Peter Obi

The Director of Research of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Akin Fapoumda, has warned 2027 presidential aspirant Peter Obi to protect himself, adding that nothing would happen if he dies.

He asked the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate to ensure he does not die for nothing.

Ekwutosblog reported that the motorcade of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, was riddled with bullets after suspected assassins attacked a gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State.

Obi and others came under deadly attack during the formal declaration of Akpata into the ADC in Benin City.

“Assassination is not a big deal when you are contesting power with people who are not civilized.

 

The Edo State Governor, whoever he is, I can’t pronounce his name, just has a village mentality. Oshiomhole just put him there, and he is doing his bidding.

“Oyegun’s house is along the street, next to the government house…

“…If Peter Obi was shot, what would happen? Nothing will happen… Anybody who dies, just dies. Peter Obi better protect himself and not just die in vain,” he said.

“If he dies, nothing will happen. People will only protest for a few days, and nothing will happen…”

“We’ve Been Stuck In The Lift For Over 40 Minutes” — Residents of Banana Island, Ikoyi Cry Out (Video)

Residents of a luxury apartment in Banana Island raised alarm after several people were trapped inside a lift for nearly 40 minutes.

The incident surfaced after a viral video on social media showed distressed occupants inside the elevator struggling to breathe and calling for help.

In the viral video, at least five adults were seen sweating heavily while trapped inside the lift. The individuals appeared anxious as they pleaded for assistance from outside.

One of the men inside the elevator spoke in the video and explained how long they had been trapped.

“We are here stuck in the lift of Banana Island school apartment. We’ve been stuck here for almost 40 minutes and we’re all about suffocating in here.

For you to know, I’m here with my wife Mary and my brother is here and my cousin… We are here, we are about suffocating in here. No body seems to have been doing anything about it.

We spoke to the landlady’s daughter, she said, they will see what they can do. Can you imagine, the principal of the school came over and said they are trying to do, 40 minutes and we are almost passing out in here.

I don’t know what to do, we are here stuck in the lift in the apartment, stuck in the lift here in Banana apartment here. Thank you.”
