“What Is Even Real In This Administration?” – Nigerians React As Tinubu Shares AI-Generated Image Of His Meeting With Rwanda President, Kagame In Paris
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has faced widespread criticism after posting what critics claim is an AI-generated image of his ‘meeting’ with the Rwandan President.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday disclosed that he held a private lunch with his Rwandan counterpart, President Paul Kagame, in Paris, France, where both leaders discussed global affairs and Africa’s place in a changing world.
In a post shared on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, President Tinubu said the meeting focused on positioning Africa within the evolving global landscape.
“This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H. E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” the President wrote.
The meeting came days after Tinubu departed Lagos for Europe on Sunday, December 28, 2025. His spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, had earlier confirmed in a statement that the President travelled to Europe to continue his end-of-year break.
However, shortly after the post was shared, attention shifted from the substance of the meeting to the image attached to it. Netizens quickly spotted what appeared to be a Grok AI watermark on the photograph, triggering widespread reactions and questions about the authenticity of the image.
The image subsequently began trending on X, with many users openly questioning whether the meeting actually took place.
One user, Baby yoo, reacted angrily, writing, “Mr President, please sack whoever generated this picture for you to post publicly with the GROK watermark showing. Sack your photographer too. Sack whoever approved this post. Sack your media team too.”
Another user, Amanda chinda, wrote, “Nigeria don enter the era of ‘it happened, but did it really happen?’”
Ivina also expressed doubt, saying, “is Kagame aware he had this meeting. If he was he would have at least posted on his own X page. Something is fishy”.
Similarly, Mr Gerald asked, “Grok generated image? Is Kagame aware he had this meeting?”
Mr Czar added, “Why is there a grok logo at the bottom right of this image”.
Ademola also questioned the development, stating, “AI generated image ? What is even real in this administration at this point ‘cos if handler can’t even know you cannot use an AI generated image for a presidential official presentation like this, omo smh!”
However, in a statement issued on Monday, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said the “picture is real and not AI generated as claimed”.
“Both President Kagame and President Tinubu met in Paris and had lunch together on Sunday. They two leaders later had dinner with President Macron the same yesterday evening. The picture was taken with a phone and obviously had poor quality,” Ajayi stated, and went on to admit that the photographer “used grok to improve the picture quality”.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, says the total rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State cost N43 billion while the bridge’s Closed Circuit Television Camera, CCTV, Centre cost about N2.5 billion.
Umahi made this known on Monday in Lagos while addressing journalists, stressing that the scope of work covered total rehabilitation of 14km by 14 metres width by two carriageways.
“It also includes rebuilding and repainting of some concrete works and replacing expansion joints and putting solar lights.”
He said the establishment of the CCTV centre, was part of the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation contract.
“The total contract sum for rehabilitation of the bridge is N43 billion.
“The cost of the CCTV centre is not more than N2.5 billion,” he said.
He emphasised that the CCTV centre did not cost N40 billion as reported in some quarters.
Inaugurating the CCTV centre on Sunday, Umahi had said that the current administration met a terrible Third Mainland Bridge.
“When we came on board in 2023, we saw a very terrible Third Mainland Bridge, Carter Bridge and Iddo Bridge both on the pavement, surface, infrastructure above the water and even infrastructure below the water.
”The president, therefore, directed total re-evaluation and rehabilitation of the surfaces of the Third Mainland Bridge and changing the expansion joints,” he said.
According to the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr Olufemi Dare, the CCTV centre is the first of its kind in Nigeria.
He said: “We have a boat that has been bought for surveillance of the bridge. There are two Hilux vans, too.
“We have 240 solar panels in this environment. The whole place is fully air-conditioned. We have 10 inverters inside the building.
”We have a transformer, a 300KVA transformer. We have a standby generating plant and monitoring screens.”

Two Rivers State lawmakers have withdrawn from the impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy
Two Rivers State lawmakers, including Minority Leader Sylvanus Nwankwo and Peter Abbey, have withdrawn their support for the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu. They are urging their fellow legislators to seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis, citing appeals from respected stakeholders within and outside the state ¹.
The lawmakers emphasized that the decision was influenced by interventions from “our elders and leaders” who appealed for restraint and reconciliation. They called on the Assembly to halt the impeachment process and explore alternative means of resolving the crisis.
This development comes as the Rivers State Elders and Leaders Forum has also condemned the impeachment move, describing the reasons as “disturbingly weak, lacking substance, public interest justification, or constitutional weight”.
